Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and will miss the remainder of the 2026 season, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Monday.

Achane sustained the injury on his third rushing attempt of the game. Chiefs safety Alohi Gilman tackled him awkwardly on the play, and Achane was slow to leave the field afterward.

Achane eventually made his way to the blue medical tent under his own power with an escort. He emerged after a few minutes and was taken to the locker room for additional testing before the Dolphins ruled him out during the second half.

Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said after the game that Miami was still gathering information about Achane’s injury. However, Hafley acknowledged that the initial outlook was not encouraging.

“To be very honest with you, it does not sound very optimistic at this moment,” Hafley said. “But I can't give you any other details until I have them.”

The injury ends Achane’s season after three games and represents the first major injury of his career. He missed five games during his rookie season in 2023 but missed only one game across the next two seasons.

Achane signed a contract worth $64 million over four years during the offseason. Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan has described the running back as a “pillar” of the rebuilding team.

Through three games, Achane rushed for 127 yards on 34 carries. He entered 2026 after the best season of his career, having recorded 1,838 yards from scrimmage and 12 total touchdowns in 2025 on his way to his first Pro Bowl selection.

Ollie Gordon II was the only other active running back for Sunday’s 24-10 loss, which dropped Miami to 0-3. Jaylen Wright was inactive because of a stinger, while Jarquez Hunter was on the practice squad.

Gordon finished the game with 41 rushing yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. He also caught three passes for 14 yards as Miami worked through the loss of Achane.

Wide receiver Malik Washington took snaps at running back after Achane was injured. Hafley said the construction of the roster for the game was intentional because the Dolphins were confident in Washington’s ability to fill in if needed.

Miami traded a 2025 pick in the third round to select Wright in the fourth round of the 2024 draft. The former Tennessee running back has rushed for 547 yards and two touchdowns in his career, including a performance of 107 yards against the New York Jets last season.

Gordon won the Doak Walker award while playing for Oklahoma State before Miami selected him in the sixth round last season. He rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie.

The Dolphins acquired Hunter in a trade this summer, sending wide receiver Tutu Atwell to the Los Angeles Rams. Miami received the 2025 pick from the fourth round out of Auburn, who appeared in five games as a rookie last season but has not registered an offensive touch.

Since his rookie season, Achane ranks 12th in the NFL with 4,510 yards from scrimmage and 13th with 35 scrimmage touchdowns. His six yards per touch ranks sixth among running backs during that same span.

Achane has also moved into prominent positions on Miami’s franchise lists after three seasons. He ranks seventh all time with 3,184 rushing yards, stands sixth in scrimmage yards and ranks third in touchdowns scored by a running back.

The Dolphins have made Achane the focal point of their offense for the past three seasons. He has touched the ball 627 times since 2024, while no other player currently on Miami’s roster has recorded more than 150 touches during that span.
